When Google Became a Word -

While working with heat press as part of my job in making mens graphic t shirts, a friend asked me about online topics. One of his questions, “Do you remember the search engines that came before google?”

Personally, I don’t. Ever since I’ve discovered the massive world that is the internet, I have already been using Google as my primary and only search engine.

Before the internet, information was really cluttered; books, documents, articles, photos, they were simply unorganized and hard to come by especially if there was only one copy for a specific place, date, and time!

When all these information was stored digitally, people could freely access them. Because of the massive amount of data, surely, there had to be a way to sort through them all!

Thus, Google the search engine was born. Because of it’s reliability and really good search algorithms, a lot of people has considered it their new best friend!

Google has even become a commonplace word that people use as an adjective to describe an on line search.

Google + : The New Social Network-

Facebook has taken the world by it’s figurative storm and it has dominated much of the social media mania nowadays, even encompassing the holiday photo cards markets.

Recently however, Google launched their very own social network to compete with all the other existing social networks on line. They call it Google +.

Google’s popularity however has spurred an unexpected but exceedingly high demand of users who want to register and try it out. It is no doubt becoming a fast internet sensation as exhibited when Google was forced to suspend the sending of invites due to the insane demand.

Currently, the launched version is still at it’s beta phase. Even so, this new social network is already making it’s mark as it proves that it’s here to stay.

Google Email Hosting – What’s So Great About It?

Folks, let me tell you something about Google’s free email service called Gmail. For those of you who do not know, gmail is Google’s Email Hosting, or should I say, it is their flagship product, free product I might add, on email service.

I remember the first time I ever heard about Google’s Gmail, that was way back in 2001 or something, I begged my office mate to send me an invite so that I can give it a try. Yeah, the beta version of gmail then was invite only. Unlike today (which i just recently) you can just click ‘new account’ or ‘new signup’ and you have an account. Back then, if you don’t know anybody who knows somebody, you wont get a brand new, shinny, yahoo email-killer, Gmail.

But hey, did you know that Google initially released their email technology in a campus or a University? Yeah, that right, just like Facebook. You can read all about it here.

What Is So Good With Google Email Hosting?

First of all it’s FREE. Second of all, it’s Google. Third, Unlimited space. Fouth.. Fifith, we can go on and on on this but one thing I want to point out is this, for something that is free, Google’s email service is top notch. Of course, we cannot say that the service is perfect. Nobody is perfect after all. The things I mentioned are the great things about it although, yes, there are some (maybe just a couple) of not-so-great things about Google Email Hosting, but those are microscopic compares to those great features mentioned above.

What Is Not So Good About GMAIL?

It’s not actually a downside or a negative but the only complaint that some (most) people who are not that techsavvy or aware of Google’s billion dollar business is the Adverts. Yes, Gmail has tons of text links advertising.

Personally, these are ok by me after all, I do have an account with Google Adsense.

Final Words on Google Email Hosting

There are many benefits in using Google Email Host.

* Gmail as MUA, it rocks
* My Google talk (fajri@freebsd.or.id) can send and receive message from gmail talk (somebody@gmail.com)
* It’s easy to manage
* I usually have many GB in my mail server because i takes control in my mail server, but 2 GB for each user, again.. it rocks
* Google integration : mail, calendar, groups, google talk.

before, when i’m going to check my google groups, i have to open another browser and then login with my fajri@freebsd.or.id, while my main browser (firefox) still read my gmail with my google account (fajrifajri), now i dont need to do that

Knowledge is Power-

Almost all educated people say that knowledge is power. Those who have knowledge are usually better off than those who don’t because they know things.

If you have knowledge and insurance and if you have intelligence on how to use it, then you definitely have power. There are a lot of things to know about in this world. Different areas that many specialize in which becomes an almost exclusive form of knowledge for those in a particular field.

If you know about history then you could surely analyze, compare, and contrast what happened before to what is happening today. If you know about sociology, then you can study the antecedents of culture that identifies cultures.

Knowledge is great power.

Specialized Sector-

People specialize in the things they do for a reason. Of course this reason is apparent to everyone but is it really?

Over the years of discovery, the knowledge that our race built and has discovered has grown exponentially that specialized sectors became a must. Although sometimes it is also advised to not specialize exclusively, I personally have the urge to try and specialize over everything that I could grasp. It reminds of water softeners.

Knowledge is a great tool in the world and knowing a lot of things about some sectors can help you go a long way in life. People aren’t limited to knowing only what they’ve learned.

Knowledge is a free resource that can be grasped by anyone who seeks it.

10,000 Hour Rule-

Malcolm Gladwell’s book entitled Outliers: The Story of Success shares that in order for one to be considered an expert in a certain field (use ipod touch speakers for an ipod version) , one must first spend 10,000 hours doing it. Is there any credence to this premise, you might ask? As I’ve read the chapter, I am absolutely convinced that there is.

Spending this much amount of time mastering a skill will certainly help you doing that, like . It’s only logical. It’s like training your brain to be good at something by spending that amount of time.

The most successful people in the world were cited in the book to have done this and upon the author’s research, it certainly seems to be one of the rules to success. Bill Gates, The Beatles, you name it. They’ve spent 10,000 hours doing what they do best before they became the best.

Building Vocabulary-

There are a lot of words in the english language and many that aren’t commonly used. Although there’s not a lot of sense in learning all, most should still be learned and there’s really no harm in knowing a few more.

Do you know what a floor matt is? That’s not a new word but the buick lesabre custom floor mats is, if you don’t know what a buick lesabre is.
(It’s a car btw).

One great exercise in building vocabulary is to learn one new word each day and try to use it as much as possible. Filipinos are known to be one of the most fluent among Asian countries when it comes to the English language and why not live up to that by building an extensive vocabulary.

Learn a new word each day by randomly picking one in a dictionary.

Car Donation Tax Deduction-

This is the first post that I’ll be doing to monitor the stuff that I register online as my ‘virtual real estate‘. For the first week of June 2011 I registered the domain -> http://cardonation-taxdeductions.com

Why did I register that? Well, first of all, tonight is the night I found out about Spyfu’s keywords with the highest CPC, so I decided to try those keywords out and this car donation is the first one that I registered. Of course going forward, I will no longer be doing adsense site for home stuff (too bad for YourHomeNeedsThis.com), like lava lamps, wingback chairs and others. Now, I’m targeting for high CPC keywords! Good luck to me!

Here are the details of that keyword:

car lifts for sale – 1,300 – 19 advertise – $2-$3/click
car donation tax deduction – 1,600 – 22 advertisers – $17.13 – $21.07 (pwede)

(please ignore that ‘car lifts for sale’ thing, I found this ‘home auto lift’, but the number of searches didn’t pass the critiria).

Anyway, the data shown above are dash-separated. The firs tone is the keyword, the second is the searches per month for the exact keywords. Next is obviously the number of advertisers bidding for that particular keyword and the last one is the cost per click.. as you can see, ‘pwede’.

Ok! Time to build the site and invest in oro gold products.

What you Need or Want-

There’s a very clear line that separates what you need and what you want.

People usually mistake want for need and I admit that I was once a victim of it.

The biggest downside in mistaking what you want for a need is ending up with things that you don’t really need. Take for example, thinking that you need more things or decorations to make your home prettier might lead you to spending an unnecessary amount of money. The next thing you know, you’re broke and struggling to make end’s meet.

If you have a business, a document scanning software is a need. So its ok to buy one.

One great way to avoid these things is to ask yourself first if you really need it or you just want it.

Comfort Zone -

Everyone has a comfort zone like I do when it comes to preference. I’m not the type of person who goes out of the way to try new things. I am perfectly content where I am, what I do, and what I eat everyday.

Not everyone is as adventurous as those guys I see in discovery channel who try new things that are beyond their comfort zone. For me safe is good and it will keep me content for the foreseeable future.

A friend has suggested however that it’s good to try something new once in a while. With this thought, I am trying to find something to do that I usually don’t. It’s like listening music with wireless bookshelf speakers. Hopefully not something entirely too far fetched.
