December 27th, 2008 by Build Vocabulary

We are going to the Philippines summer capital even though it’s December and the weather is cold… It’s alright, it’s a perfect way to celebrate the holiday with the family.

As I was updating my blog, I came across a news in Yahoo (yeah, I’m checking my email). I then updated my video blog with the news and stated my sadness.

So, in building our vocabulary tonight, our word is “Truce” which means, straightforwardly – a ceasefire. It is a cease fire between to opposing group in a hope or a chance to talk peace.

The news was about Israel and Gaza/Palestines.

Here are two definition of “Truce”:

# A ceasefire (or truce) is a temporary stoppage of a war or any armed conflict, where each side of the conflict agrees with the other to suspend aggressive actions. …

# a period of time in which no fighting takes place due to an agreement between the opposed parties; an agreement between opposed parties in which …

December 26th, 2008 by Build Vocabulary

Today is the day after Christmas,,, yeah it’s December 26.. I was checking my Yahoo email when I got a glimpse of the terrible news… A man dressed up as Sanda crash to a christmas eve party and killed at least 6 people.. how sad was that..

I knew right then that this person had a personal problem… and it turns out its true.. He just underwent a horrific divorce experience:

Today’s word is Amicable… that’s everything their marriage was not. Amicable.

To qoute the police officer:

“It was not an amicable divorce,” police Lt. Pat Buchanan said…

So time to build that vocabulary.. here’s the definition of Amicable

# characterized by friendship and good will

# Showing friendliness or goodwill

# amicably – in an amicable manner; “they separated amicably”

# amicability – a disinclination to quarrel

# amicability – The state or quality of being amicable or friendly

# amicably – friendly; characterized by an absence of antagonism, especially in commonly difficult situations

# means “friendly and peaceable”, and is used to describe agreements or relationships between groups or people: After years of disagreement, the two countries came to an amicable agreement.

# agreed to, or prosecuted with the agreement of all parties, such as Amicable Revival of Judgment

Check out the utube video of that news.

Recuperate

October 30th, 2008 by Build Vocabulary

Recuperate is when you’re sick and you stay at home or in a hospital to get well. Basically, Recuperate is to get well…

Let’s take this Business Mirror article about Eraserheads’ vocalist Ely Buendia… “spent about a week in the hospital and a month-and-a-half at home recuperating”.

That’s self explanatory isn’t it? If you may recall, Ely Buendia was underwent another unblocking of artery after he was rushed from a one night Eraserheads reunion concert last AUgust 31, 2008.

He was at the hospital getting better… or should we say recuperating.. nice! :) Apply and use the word to retain in memory.

Good luck!
